While I was in high school, the school board recommended that students use Microsoft Word to do all of our essays and assignments. I have seen more teachers use it than students but it was mostly used to have written instructions for the day on the board. For the most part, my teachers never cared whether we used Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Google Docs was easier for me to learn how to use and it was a lot more convenient, especially for group projects, because it made sharing documents and working simultaneously so much more efficient.
Many times while doing an essay or a report and evidence is found online or in a book, we forget to cite the source we received the information from. Copyright is serious and must be taken into account when finding evidence. As a teacher, I will have to create my own teaching material and I will have to show my students how to create their own work. I expect myself and my students to look to other people's work for examples and help but copying directly will not be tolerated. Its one thing to use a few words or lines if they are cited, but Copyright protects the owner of the material.
With the implementation of technology in the classroom, issues are sure to arise. One of the biggest issues is ensuring academic honesty in our digital world. Its easy for people to go online and copy and paste information. As a teacher, I would stress the importance of academic integrity and would remind students to cite their sources whenever they use information they found online. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Another major problem that I will face is ensuring that all students have access to technology. I understand that not every student will have a computer or WiFi at home to do certain assignments. I will make sure that any work that has to be done with technology can be done at the school where computers and WiFi will be available. Cyber-bullying is one issue that I definitely do not have any tolerance for. Although I know I cannot prevent cyber-bullying from happening, I can warn the children and let them know that they are safe to tell me if anyone is bullying them. One way to lower the chances of it is to keep all accounts on private, so that you can choose who sees what you post and who you interact with.
I like that you included the digital divide in your paragraph on the issues of technology implementation. I think this is one that teachers can often overlook as they can have the false belief that everyone has access to a computer and the internet.
